Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. ~ Isaiah 46:4

Today is my mom’s 90th birthday. As I look at her in this picture ~ taken only two months ago with my son and with our granddaughter ~ it’s hard to believe she’s seen 90 years of life! Still looking so much younger than her years, it’s possible she’ll pass the century mark like her mother, who lived to 104. Although you won’t see any gray hairs on this well-coifed head, God does. He is watching over every detail of her life.
My siblings and I are beginning to see the aging process impact Mom’s memory and make her world smaller. The adventurous woman who once traveled the world with confidence and zeal, now lives in a 5 mile radius with an occasional jaunt to our home about 50 miles away.
Mom faces many challenges in the year ahead as she and my step-dad prepare to move from their three-story home to a single level one on my sister’s property. They will need more and more assistance with their daily living, and their independent lifestyle is slipping away.
As I look back over my life and ahead to the stage Mom is moving into, I find so much peace and comfort in knowing that God’s loving care will not cease. I know that even as my memory may eventually slip away, He will never forget me. His Word says He has engraved my name on the palm of His hand ~ right beside the nail-pierced scar from the cross of Calvary where He purchased my ticket to heaven.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the sweet promise that Your loving care and provision extend throughout the years of my life. And one day, You will usher me into eternity, where aging will be no more.
